All in the Family
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. Romans 8:14-15
I have a sister in Christ who openly claims me as her sister. Interestingly Barb is unmistakably White and I am unmistakably Black. We often get strange looks when she says “This is my sister, Pam.” I usually smile and say, “Yeah, we were adopted by the same dad.”
When we recieve Jesus, we are re-born into the family of God and we receive the spirit of adoption. This spirit makes sonship a reality to us and allows us to boldly call God “Daddy” and be led by Him.
It’s a common misconception that living according to God’s standards and guidelines is hard. The truth is, living for God isn’t hard when you’re being lead by His spirit. Living according to your carnal nature, that part of us that is enemy to God and opposite to His word, makes for a frustrating Christian life. It’s like trying to drive in Chicago with a Detroit map. Nothing makes sense and you’ll never get where you’re trying to go.
Being lead by the spirit of God is simply being open to doing things God’s way. The more time you spend in the word and prayer, the more you’ll start to change and the easier it will be to follow His lead. You’ll develop the Heavenly family traits. And everyone will tell you just how much you are like your Father.
