Can You Handle This Scandal? Mentoring Moments, the 1 min blog
It takes the Holy Spirit to handle the scandal.
“Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint against the Hebrews by the Hellenists.” Act 6:1
Talk about a growth spurt! 5,000 were added to the early church on the Day of Pentecost and it didn’t stop there. The early church was not just adding it was multiplying. Then right in the middle of this tremendous growth a potential scandal arises. The Hellenists accused the Hebrews of mistreating their widows because of their nationality.
Racism and gender bias didn’t begin in the church, but they are also no strangers to it either. Sunday morning at 11 am is still the most segregated hour in America. Kingdom leaders face this particular scandal head on, not with politics but with the Holy Spirit.
The Apostles and disciples selected leaders full of the Holy Spirit to bring righteousness and equality in order to put this controversy to death. Leaders, when scandals arise, resist the temptation to be politically correct. Instead enforce the standard of the Kingdom and righteousness will prevail.
