GO FOR IT!
NOW [in Haran] the Lord said to Abram, Go for yourself [for your own advantage] away from your country, from your relatives and your father’s house, to the land that I will show you. Genesis 12:1
Much of what I teach involves selflessness. It’s better to give than to receive (Acts 20:30), the lesser is blessed by the greater (Heb 7:7). So my eyebrows were raised when the Lord began to churn Gen 12:1 “Go for yourself” over and over in my heart. God was telling Abram, not yet Abraham, to make a move because it was good for him. The Amplified version says to go “for your own advantage.”
There is a time to serve, lead and love others. (Have you bought the book yet?) There is also a time position yourself for your own advantage. This is not about getting ahead of or competing with people. It’s about making the right move at the right time to keep yourself on God’s time-table. When Abram made his move, he allowed God to fulfill the promise in verse 2, “you will be a blessing.”
Are you ready to be a blessing to your world? Go for yourself. In the long run when your name becomes Abraham, we’ll all thank you for it.
