“I Ran A Mile and Liked It”,Mentoring Moments, the 1 Minute Blog
I ran a mile and I liked it!
I accidentally joined a running club. Yes, you read that right, accidentally. I was helping a new leader build a small group. C25K is a 9-week program that helps people go from being a couch potato to running a 5K. I showed up on her first day to cheer her on, and lend some periscope support. Much to my own surprise, I found myself joining this running club.
So after years of saying “I don’t run!” I ran. At first it was just one minute followed by a 90 second walk. But the next week I ran the 90 seconds, after that 3 minutes, then 5 and later 8 minutes. I’m still working towards running 5K. Now I can proudly say, I AM A Runner!
My running journey reminds me of how discipleship works. Jesus says, “Follow me.” and for a minute we do. Follow Jesus long and hard enough and you will find yourself not just doing something new, but being someone new!
Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. 1 Corinthians 9:24
