Mentoring Moments, the 1 Min Blog: Stop Failing and Start Learning
For a righteous man falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked are overthrown by calamity. Proverbs 24:16 (AMP)
Have you recently encountered failure? Congratulations! Studies show that we learn much more from failure than success. I’ll admit that failure is never fun and nobody with half a brain ever plays to lose. But like it or not, some of our efforts will fall short. Not every shot will swoosh!
So what’s a smart leader to do? Get rid of that win-lose attitude, and adopt a win-learn attitude. You didn’t fail; you learned something you didn’t know before. You gained wisdom worthy of passing on. And you’re in good company. Thomas Edison, the creator of the first light bulb, had 10,000 “learning experiences” before he reached success. Now Edison’s light bulb has become a symbol of a bright idea.
Ever missed a shot? Examine why, process it and learn from it. What looks like a failure could bring you new perspectives and cause you to be wildly creative. You’ve got to believe there is victory for you! When you commit to getting that victory, you’ll stop failing and start leaning.
Success and progress!
