The Wonder of It All – Receiving the Kingdom of God
”I assure you and most solemnly say to you, unless you repent [that is, change your inner self—your old way of thinking, live changed lives] and become like children [trusting, humble, and forgiving], you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 Whoever receives and welcomes one child like this in My name receives Me; Matthew 18:3-5 (AMP)
This is the season of wonder and amazement. This is a season of hope and love. This is the season of the impossible and the miraculous. This is the season of Christmas. What is it about this time of year, that makes the world is so open to unlimited possibilities? Personally, I blame Charles Dickens and his work, “The Christmas Carol”. Everyone wants the magical transformation of heart, although not necessarily the ghosts.
Isn’t interesting that during the month of December so many people give themselves permission to have childlike faith and look for the wonder and amazement around them in the day to day living. As I enjoy Dicken’s tale along with everyone else during this time of year, I am reminded that according the Jesus, this should be my everyday attitude.
Just like Ebenezer Scrooge had to look at his life and his ideas about the situations and people around him, the same is true for all. Scrooge’s heart was repent of its old ways. So, it must be with everyone. Only by living a life of faith, trust, humility, and forgiveness can I, or anyone, hope to receive the Kingdom of God.
