The Season of Appreciation
THE SEASON OF APPRECIATION
This is my prayer: that your love will flourish and that you will not only love much but well. Learn to love appropriately. You need to use your head and test your feelings so that your love is sincere and intelligent, not sentimental gush. Live a lover’s life, circumspect and exemplary, a life Jesus will be proud of: bountiful in fruits from the soul, making Jesus Christ attractive to all, getting everyone involved in the glory and praise of God.
Philippians 1:9-11 (MSG)
Can you believe it is November already? Gone are the lingering rays of sunshine. Now the evenings are long. There is a chill in the air. I especially look forward to gatherings with family. Everyone together, basking in warmth and comfort. This is the time to offer up thanks. This is the season of appreciation.
During this time, I believe that even the most devoted pessimist would be able to find at one thing to be thankful for during this month. That is why I love Philippians 1:9… This is my prayer: that your love will flourish and that you will not only love much but well. Not only does Paul pray for us to love one another, but to love one another well. What does it mean to love another person well?
I think Paul’s prayer is to remind us of the love that was so greatly, and unselfishly given. Can we love so that others see the love of Jesus? It is said that imitation is the highest form of flattery. During this season of appreciation, let us remember to show the genuine, and unfailing love that has been shown to us. What better way to truly show appreciation.
