Throw in the Towel, Mentoring Moments, the 1 min blog
This month is all about strife vs. conflict. This week, let’s talk about when to throw in the towel. I know you’re thinking, “What? We are Kingdom people. We never quit.” But, oh yes, we do. There’s a time to speak up and then there’s a time to clam up.
In Matthew 7:6 Jesus teaches, “Do not throw your pearls before swine.” That’s kind of a harsh statement. Nobody wants to be called a pig, but some people are just pigheaded. The Bible gives clear instruction on how to deal with them.
“Do not rebuke mockers; they will hate you.” Proverbs 9:8
“Do not speak to fools, they will scorn you.” Proverbs 23:9
“Don’t answer the foolish arguments of fools, or you will become as foolish as they are.” Proverbs 26:4
Some fights are yours to win, but it’s important to know when you’re sitting across the table from someone who is NOT looking to understand you. If their only motive is to prove you wrong, you’re in dangerous waters. The only way to win is to clam up, keep your pearls and get out quickly.
