Who’s Being Made?

 In category, Leadership

Matthew 4:19 (KJV)
And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

Jesus’ invitation to Andrew and Peter carries a heavy promise for them as well as a leadership challenge for us. He said to them “Follow me and I will make you…” As a leader who serves primarily with volunteers, I make lots of invitations for others to follow me. I find myself describing to willing hearts what they would be doing if they accepted my invitation. In this passage, Jesus took a different approach.

He didn’t give Peter and Andrew all the details about being part of His travel team. He promised to take what they were already doing-who they already were-and give it eternal value in His Kingdom. Jesus made good on His promise. Peter preached on the day of Pentecost and 3,000 people got saved. (Acts 2:41) That’s fishing, big time! Revelation 21:14 says their names are engraved on the foundation of the New Jerusalem, never to be forgotten.

Are the people following you being more, or are they simply doing more? Good leaders influence others and produce great things. Great leaders influence others and produce great people as well. Who’s being made?

Success and Progress!
