Why Suffer? Mentoring Moments, the 1 min blog
The Passion. As we reflect on the final days before the crucifixion, God has been reminding me of the choices Jesus made. He chose to go to Jerusalem. He chose the Father’s will in the garden of Gethsemane.
Even on the cross, Jesus had a choice. That choice was presented in the words of the two thieves who hung on either side of Him. One said “Are You not the Christ (the Messiah)? Rescue Yourself and us [from death]!” Luke 23:39 (AMP) A reasonable request. The other recognized that Jesus was suffering unjustly and asked “Lord, remember me when You come in Your kingly glory!” Luke 23:42 (AMP)
You too will face choices whenever the will of God requires suffering. So why do it? Because suffering is often a prerequisite to Kingdom dominion. (2Tim 2:12) It kills carnality and develops meekness. (Hebrews 5:8)
So while some are saying to you “You don’t have to take that!” and others are saying “Stay on the cross, it’s worth it!” Choose wisely, and by the way, “remember me…”
