Win Big!
Therefore humble yourselves [demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation] under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you, 1 Peter 5:6 (AMP)
I’ve never been a good card player. I’ve been dismissed from more than one Bid Whist or Spades table during in my college career. But when I last reviewed 1Peter 5:6, where the Apostle Peter instructs us to humble ourselves under the hand of God, I couldn’t help but think of a card game. I imagine myself in God’s hand as He faces his opponent, Satan.
Putting ourselves in God’s hand acknowledges His lordship (ownership) of our lives. This often means not saying or doing exactly what we want when we want. To do otherwise is sin. Pastor Tony Evans states in his book The Kingdom Agenda, “The great sin isn’t adultery or homosexuality. The great sin of the Bible is to live independently of God…”
This week, I encourage you to place yourself in the hand of God. Trust that He knows when to hold you close and when to play you on the table of life. Sometimes God waits until all bets are in and your enemy has played his hand. Be patient, when God’s hand moves, you’ll win big.
Success and Progress!
